The All-Ukrainian Trade Union of Defenders of Ukraine, Athletes and Workers of the Spheres has announced the launch of several social programs for union members. These include rehabilitation, psychological support, and employment opportunities, explains Sofia Cherepanova, Deputy Chairman of the Union.
"We are actively working to expand the range of opportunities for re-socialization of people traumatized by the war. For example, we are negotiating with cultural institutions and representatives of the public sector to be able to restore people through art therapy and art. We pay special attention to the issues related to children in war, their fears and reactions to stress, because they are our future," says Sofia Cherepanova.
Even now, the Women's Wing of the Trade Union has several areas available to trade union members and their families:
- retraining in IT for veterans;
- psychological assistance from a qualified military psychologist for everyone;
- Canine Assisted Therapy (psychological assistance with dogs) from the only certified center in Ukraine for veterans, active military personnel and their families;
- psychological support for women, including victims of sexual violence (anonymously);
- consultation with the possibility of further treatment in a reproductive clinic;
- excursions for children to a fire station and a company of patrol cavalry in Kyiv;
- Referral for rehabilitation and prosthetics;
- resocialization and rehabilitation through sports - jiu-jitsu (for people with amputations).
"As for hippotherapy (a treatment method based on human interaction with a specially trained horse adapted to the patient's ability to master riding), we cooperate with a social ranch. Hippotherapy sessions for military personnel, former prisoners of war, and their families are held there to harmonize relationships. All offers for Union members are free of charge and provided by our reliable partners and friends," says Sofia Cherepanova.
