The Ukrainian diaspora in the Spanish city of Alicante is actively developing cultural life and supporting the families of displaced persons.
At the initiative of Sofiya Cherepanova, Deputy Head of the All-Ukrainian Trade Union of Defenders of Ukraine, 10 children’s books on post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), “Dark Corners: My Dad Has PTSD!” by German author Katrin Schrokke, were donated to the library of the Ukrainian House in Alicante. The book is distributed in Ukraine thanks to the friendly support of the International Foundation “Global Initiative in Psychiatry.” It tells the story of a child living alongside a close person who has experienced traumatic events caused by participation in war. The book helps readers understand how children perceive and cope with life with a parent who has PTSD and fosters empathetic dialogue between generations about traumatic experiences.
“This initiative aims to promote children’s emotional resilience and raise their awareness of important psychological topics related to war and sudden changes in the behavior of loved ones,” emphasizes Sofiya.
The All-Ukrainian Trade Union of Defenders of Ukraine continues its work not only on the social protection of servicemen but also on supporting families, creating important educational and cultural resources for Ukrainian children abroad.
