February 14 marks International Book Giving Day, celebrated since 2012 to promote reading, a love of books, and the culture of giving. This initiative encourages gifting books to friends, children, libraries, or leaving them in public spaces, bringing people together through the power of words and knowledge.
On this occasion, the All-Ukrainian Trade Union of Defenders of Ukraine donated 10 copies of the children’s psychological book “Dark Corners: My Dad Has PTSD” by Katrin Shrokke and Lilli L’Arronj, as well as methodological guides authored by members of the women’s wing, “How to Support Women and Girls Who Have Experienced the Loss of a Loved One”, signed with warm wishes from the authors, to our partners — the recovery space *Stavytska Recovery Space*.
“For us, it is important not only to ensure the physical recovery of defenders but also to support their moral and emotional well-being. Returning to peaceful life requires access to support and quality knowledge. A book is a tool of care that helps better understand one’s own experiences and strengthen the family. We are convinced that education and psychological awareness are key components of resilience for our defenders and their loved ones. That is why the All-Ukrainian Trade Union of Defenders of Ukraine continuously implements educational initiatives, donates and distributes useful literature, supporting comprehensive recovery,” said Sofiia Cherepanova, Deputy Chair of the Trade Union.
May these books become a source of support, understanding, and inner strength for all who need it.
A separate copy was presented to Swedish volunteer Gabriel Rappe, who delivered an ambulance and a fire truck to Ukraine for the needs of communities in the Kharkiv region.
