The 72nd Separate Mechanized Brigade named after the Black Zaporizhians has many prominent figures. One of them is Vladyslav Shkolnyi, call sign “HROM,” an officer who rose from a cadet to major and deputy commander of a tank battalion. His story is an example of courage, resilience, and true service to the state.

🔹 Childhood and Character 🔹
Vladyslav was born in the village of Stepanetske in Cherkasy region. From an early age, he was an active and athletic boy. During his school years, he already stood out for his discipline and perseverance. These qualities became the foundation for his future military path.
“My father instilled in me a love for sports. He taught me that strength is not only in muscles but also in character. This lesson has stayed with me throughout my life,” the officer recalls.

A passion for sports, discipline, and a thirst for victory became his inner backbone, helping him endure the difficult trials of service and war.

🔹 Warrior’s Path 🔹
After school, the young man enrolled in the Kremenchuk Lyceum with enhanced military and physical training, and later at the Hetman Petro Sahaidachnyi National Ground Forces Academy. Vladyslav graduated from the academy ahead of schedule — the war left no time for prolonged studies.

• 2015 — received the officer rank of lieutenant and was appointed commander of a tank platoon. Later, he led a company.
• 2016 — was promoted early to the rank of captain.
• 2020 — appointed deputy commander of a tank battalion.
• 2021 — promoted to major.
• 2023 — completed service but remains a role model for his comrades.

Vladyslav speaks openly about his role in the military:
“I have always felt responsibility for the people I lead. A commander is not just about giving orders. It’s about the ability to listen to your soldiers and go into battle together,” he says.

🔹 Awards and Recognition 🔹
Over the years of service, “HROM” received dozens of state and departmental awards. Among them:

• Order of Bohdan Khmelnytsky, 3rd Class;
• Medals “For Courage,” “For the Defense of Avdiivka,” and “For Achievements in Military Service” 1st and 2nd Class;
• The “Black Zaporizhians Ring — Adam’s Head” award;
• Honorary award “Honor. Glory. State.” from Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko.
  Each of these awards is not just a symbol of valor but a reflection of battles, decisive actions, and heavy losses.

🔹 HROM Beyond the War 🔹
Despite the years of war, Vladyslav has retained a love for simple things. He enjoys fishing, skiing, and dreams of a quiet life with his family in his own home.
“War has taught me to appreciate the simple moments. I always remember that our country is fighting for life—for children to be able to laugh, for Ukraine to have a future. That is the true victory,” the officer shares.
