An international Series A karate tournament, the “Malanka Cup,” took place in Chernivtsi, bringing together over 800 participants from Ukraine and Moldova.
Twenty athletes aged 8 to 22 from the Lviv-based “Phoenix” club took part in the competition. Their coaches are members of the Lviv Regional Organization of the All-Ukrainian Trade Union of Defenders of Ukraine—Denys Pichuhin, Olena Pletniova, and Dmytro Fedotov.
Since this was the first tournament of the new year, the athletes were not given specific competitive objectives. The main emphasis was on correcting mistakes, self-improvement, and developing an understanding of the opponent. Nevertheless, the Lviv karate athletes delivered strong results:
1st place — Dmytro Fedotov, kumite, men (75 kg);
1st place — Oksana Mudrak, kumite, junior women (66 kg);
3rd place — Anastasiia Dumych, kumite, youth (66+ kg);
5th place — Olia Babiak, kumite, cadet girls (61 kg);
5th place — Sofiia Kulchytska, kumite (52+ kg);
7th place — Taras Kondiukh (-63 kg, -75 kg).
