Recently, Prince Harry, the Duke of Sussex, paid an unofficial visit to Kyiv — a man who deeply understands the cost of military service, brotherhood, and the trials of war. Fifteen veterans of the Russian-Ukrainian war, members of the All-Ukrainian Trade Union of Defenders of Ukraine, joined the meeting with His Royal Highness, together with Serhiy Bizov, Head of the Federation of Trade Unions of Ukraine.
Prince Harry’s visit to the Ukrainian capital was a powerful gesture of solidarity and genuine understanding of the challenges soldiers face after returning from the front lines. This meeting carried special significance in the context of Harry’s international initiative — the Invictus Games. Founded in 2014, the Invictus Games unite veterans and wounded servicemen and women from around the world, helping them regain strength and a sense of camaraderie through sport. Ukrainian warriors have repeatedly taken part in the competition, winning medals and showing the unbreakable spirit of our nation. The next Invictus Games will take place in the summer of 2027 in Birmingham, United Kingdom — and members of the Defenders’ Trade Union are already preparing for the selection.
During the meeting, veterans shared their own stories of courage and resilience with the prince, talked about their journey from the front-line trenches to recovery, and the support they find in the Trade Union. For many, this event confirmed that the voices of Ukrainian warriors are heard and supported worldwide.
Serhiy Bizov, Head of the Federation of Trade Unions of Ukraine, emphasized:
"This meeting is not only about the attention of world leaders to our Heroes. It is also about recognizing that Ukrainian warriors defend not only their land but the values of the entire democratic world. It is important for veterans to feel this support and pride in their journey."
Prince Harry’s presence in Kyiv once again proves that the fight of Ukrainian warriors is part of a global struggle for freedom and dignity. Every step toward unity with the international community strengthens our Defenders’ resolve and belief in victory.
