Today, in the city of Dnipro, another off-site roundtable session of the Subcommittee on Social Protection of Veterans' Rights of the Verkhovna Rada Committee of Ukraine took place, titled \u201cVeteran Policy. Honor and Respect!\u201d The All-Ukrainian Trade Union of Defenders of Ukraine was represented by the First Deputy Head of the Trade Union, David Zaharyan
and the head of the Charitable Organization \u201cCharitable Foundation \u2018Rehabilitation Space for Veterans of the Ukrainian Military \u2018Blockpost\u2019\u201d Vladyslav Moroko.<\/p>\n\n\n

In his online speech, David Zaharyan emphasized particularly important issues identified by the Trade Union during the process of returning servicemen to civilian life and obtaining veteran status.
\u201cI would like to outline three key areas that form an interconnected \u2018triangle\u2019 of adaptation:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  • employment with a decent salary;<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • psychological rehabilitation after war-related PTSD;<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Providing housing for veterans whose homes are located in temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine;
    Why a triangle? Because these issues are interconnected and are much easier to solve with a comprehensive approach. For example, if a veteran returns home without their own housing and lacks a stable job to ensure the financial stability of their family, then even the best psychological rehabilitation programs will not yield the desired result.
    I would like to separately emphasize the problem of veterans who are internally displaced persons. In the context of lacking housing upon returning from the front, their psychological condition will worsen, and the feeling of social injustice will increase. Some of the issues raised have already been communicated to the Interfactional Association on the Protection of the Rights of Veterans, Combatants, and Their Families.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n

    Present in person at the meeting, Trade Union member Vladyslav Moroko focused the attendees' attention on the catastrophic housing situation for Ukrainian veterans who lost their homes due to Russian aggression.
    \u201cRight now, we need to talk about building new neighborhoods and settlements for people who took up arms to defend their homeland and returned from the front without their own housing. Meanwhile, there is a proposal to create temporary shelters for veterans where they can stay for 2\u20133 weeks and receive comprehensive support under the \u201cstate \u2014 community \u2014 business\u201d scheme.
