Supporting the families of Ukraine’s defenders is one of the important areas of activity of the All-Ukrainian Trade Union of Defenders of Ukraine. By supporting servicemen and women, veterans, and their families, the Trade Union seeks to create for the children of its members not only engaging leisure opportunities but also a space where they can experience care, warmth, the joy of communication, and precious moments of carefree childhood.

Recently, the Lviv Regional Organization of the All-Ukrainian Trade Union of Defenders of Ukraine, together with Lviv’s first online pampushka bakery, organized a special workshop called *“Pampushky Rain”* for the children of Trade Union members. Over the course of two days, the participants prepared cottage cheese pampushky by themselves using traditional family recipes, decorated them with colorful icing, learned culinary secrets, listened to warm life stories, and became the main characters of a magical “pampushky rain” by collecting pampushky from a fairy-tale umbrella.

The most valuable outcome of the workshop was the sincere emotions of the children. After the shared activities, the participants began to open up: some sang a song, some recited a poem, while others showcased their dancing talents. It is moments like these that help children feel supported, make new friends, and, at least for a while, step away from the realities of war.

Lviv’s First Online Pampushka Bakery is a social business project founded by Lviv resident Iryna Lova. Its main feature is that the kitchen employs elderly women and internally displaced persons who prepare signature homemade pampushky. The project combines the preservation of culinary traditions with job creation and the social adaptation of elderly people.

“It is in an atmosphere of trust, kindness, and family warmth that confidence, new friendships, and cherished memories are created. At a time when Ukrainian children live with the realities of war every day, such initiatives are especially valuable. They provide a sense of safety, genuine care, and remind children that even small moments of joy can offer support and remain in their hearts for a long time,” summarized Serhii Leichenkov, Head of the Lviv Regional Organization of the All-Ukrainian Trade Union of Defenders of Ukraine.
